Baapolis Book of Kopernicus Volume 2 Chapter 21
The crowd was stunned. General Iris couldn’t believe her floppy big ears. She shook them, perked them up, perked them down the whole time Zeta was telling the story. She rubbed them at the end just to make sure they were working. Her Corgi Guard?! He bit the bull?!
Houdini was not surprised at all. His prejudice for dogs had never felt more earned. He questioned the corgi like a lawyer in a courtroom challenging the defendant. “Was your stick, or whatever you call the Brussels Blah Blah, made of PORCE-LAIN?!”
“Why yes… MASTER Wittmund made it.” Zeta replied with awe. He loved Wittmund’s creations.
Houdini glared at Wittmund even before Zeta finished saying so. He waited. Tapped his hind feet. Tapped his tail.
Wittmund shivered. Baapolis was done with him. He was sure of it.
Seeing no self-confessing outburst, Houdini continued. “The accounts match up with the shards of porcelain we scooped up around where Mrs. Dominique was found.”
Pierre, chief of their wolf brigade, was duly impressed. He urged his daughter, the scribe, to write down every detail. This way they could report back to the Shikei at the Kalamataa bull monastery the full truth.
“Henceforth, we’ll have to train our dogs to be aware of beguiling CATTLE!” Houdini concluded.
General Iris bristled. “Oh don’t be crude, no need for that derogatory word, Master Houdini! One bad apple in the herd doesn’t spoil the whole herd.” That was always General Iris’ philosophy. She certainly didn’t think Kopernicus represented the rest of them. “I’m sure they’ll have proper repentance and punishment for Moosaki.” She calmed herself.
She then turned to Pierre and confirmed that he, the most renowned Howling Star chef in meadow earth, would conduct the death ceremony of Mrs. Dominique. Pierre responded with a deep bow. “Gladly.”
To all the people now relieved after hearing the true story of how Mrs. Dominique died, General Iris beckoned them to gather on the morrow for a grand feast! “Especially working dogs and cats!” She announced. “And for everyone else, the pea sprouts are just in season! May we turn our sorrows into a feast!”
