Just then, Kopernicus hears a rustle in the hedges. The rustling sound grows louder, and out comes a dead vole in the mouth of a chocolate colored cat!
The cat* pendulum-swings the dead vole in the air, whoosh, whoosh, and whooshing into the cat’s jaws. Gulp, the vole is gone.
Kopernicus yells, “Oh, theeere you are!” as if he has been waiting or searching for the cat all morning. The cat swiftly jumps onto Kopernicus’ wooly back, and tips him off with the answer to Dali’s orientation challenge, “The West is that way…”

*The cat’s name is Houdini. He has looked after Kopernicus since the lamb was born. According to Houdini, Kopernicus’ mother was rather aloof around the time of his birth, ahem, as she always had been and is, and he had to find him crushed grains and extra milk. Kopernicus grew up with no questions that amidst a palace of sheep, it is a cat that’s his best kindred and best friend. Well, Houdini does have a role at Baapolis. He is working at the intelligence tower, sorting files, taking in scrolls from eagles, and sending out scrolls. Occasionally, he goes out on an actual spy mission. And each time when Kopernicus hears of it, he begs to go with Houdini. And each time, Houdini thinks hard of how to hide a large fluffy sheep in camouflage while completing the spy mission.

Henceforth, Kopernicus and Houdini run through the maze with breezy ease.
Dali cheers that Kopernicus got it right. At at this instance, a loud rooster messenger, Louis, flaps his way into the hedge maze.
Louis announces, “The Ladies in the kitchen…”
Before hearing out the rest of the announcement, Kopernicus is already wearing a larger than life smile, showing all his teeth.
Exhilarated, Kopernicus runs and jumps over Louis, causing Louis to lose his footing.
Of course, Louis does his job well on most days, and he’s determined to finish the announcement no matter what condition he’s in. Flat on the ground, Louis concludes, “the Afternoon Tea and Cakes are ready!” Though Kopernicus and Houdini are already on their way.
With Houdini grasping the wool on Kopernicus’ back, Kopernicus gallops with full momentum, laughing, kicking up dirt, and joying towards Baapolis, where the tea and cakes are waiting.
And this is a typical day for the prince lamb Kopernicus, who is about to become a ram.
End of Part 1. Next week, mayhaps we’ll encounter something new?
