Yeah…Right
Baapolis Book of Kopernicus Volume 2 Chapter 23
Lambda, still rubbing his stomach from the feast, fell into step beside Houdini along the halls of Baapolis, where Corgi guards were leaning against the columns itising from the feast. “That was an incredible feast, wasn’t it!” he proclaimed with enormous enthusiasm.
“Yeah, everyone getting one tiny, thin thread of chicken. Sooo incredible.” Houdini knew just how to deflate a dog’s enthusiasm.
“Don’t be a downer. You’re going on vacation soon.” Lambda licked his forepaws.
Houdini ran his paw down his face and licked his second toe on his left paw, making sure to get the very tip of his nail. He side-eyed Lambda. What a horrendous reminder. Va… ca… tion.
“You’ll get plenty of game out there,” Lambda said, dreaming of tropical fish leaping above sun-spangled waves. “And you are lucky — it’s rare for General Iris to let anyone off duty like that. We dogs haven’t had a holiday in moons.” Lambda lamented.
Of course not. We cats are far more efficient. The quicker you finish your work, the more lazing about in the sun you can steal. Houdini thought this, but held his tongue for once. “This was never my idea. General Iris simply wants me out of her sight.” Houdini said his piece without once making it about the dog. A personal record.
“Kopernicus needs to prove himself on this one,” Lambda said with an affirming nod.
“Oh yeah? Kicking out a pig is suddenly the great political rite to prove a ram’s right to rule?!”
“Ya just can’t not be a downer, can ya,” Lambda said with a look. “She agreed at the temple to push the wedding back one moon if he gets this right. And there may be other tasks after he’s dealt with the pig.”
“Yes, you are ever the optimist. Let’s see how this place holds together when I’m truly on vacation.” Houdini mused.
“Well… I’m still here…” Lambda muttered.
Yeah, right. Houdini squinted with considerable doubt.
Just outside Baapolis, at the same time, Marget and Pierre were making their way back to Kalamataa Monastery. The rest of the wolf crew followed close behind.
“We only work with honorable deaths. Now that we know the truth of how the bull we were engaged for died, we can no longer perform the service.” Pierre was firm.
Marget was not convinced. “We can’t just leave the bull half cooked?! That’s not honorable either!”
“We must learn to say NO to preserve our prestige.” Pierre’s expression went very serious. Determined.
“Then I say NO to your bologna pride!” Marget protested.
Pierre pounced on her to teach her a lesson. Marget would not have it and returned a bite to her father’s buttocks, and on they went this way — all the way back to the bullmonks.
